Windsor Ontario Canada
The Windsor-Essex Region has some of the most stable and affordable housing of any region its size in Ontario. The market has something to offer to both buyers and sellers alike. Ongoing low interest rates continue to persuade first time buyers to enter the market. The average Windsor-Essex home can be purchased at less than half of the price of an average home in nearby Toronto.
Windsor sure looks good these days.
Some welcome news has helped boost the Rose City of late: being named one of the most intelligent regions in the world by the U.S. Intelligent Community Forum, and having the Conference Board of Canada predict that Windsor will lead the country with 3.9 per cent growth in 2011.
So buoyed by recent good news, herewith are my Top 25 Best Things About Windsor.
- The Riverfront -Great green space, and we enjoy something of Detroit's that Detroit can't: its skyline.
- Detroit -We're closer to downtown Detroit than any American suburb. And Motown has tonnes to offer, including tourists who come here.
- The Spitfires -Boasting recent back-to-back junior champs gives us bragging rights. And great hockey.
The WFCU Centre -The $72.1-million facility is state of the art and it shows.
Essex County -Wineries to festivals, minutes away.
Excellent entertainment -Phog Lounge and the Blind Dog to the Boom Boom Room and Caesars Windsor, with oodles more across the river.
Super sports -The Spitfires, check. But in Detroit we have access to all four major U.S. sports, the only city in Canada with the same opportunity so close.
Great grub -Detroit visitors may be fewer in number, but they still have encouraged Windsor to cook up more restaurants per capita than most places our size.
A diversifying economy -Green energy, transportation hub, and a pending $1.5-billion Windsor-Essex Parkway.
Festival season -We haven't met a fruit or vegetable we don't like to honour.
The AGW and the WSO -For a city this size, you won't find any better.
The Capitol Theatre -Despite its troubles, the 91-yearold playhouse is still a gem.
The sculpture garden -Art mixed with grass, trees and relaxing attitude.
Caesars Windsor -Come on, you know you like having a bit of Vegas here.
Water -Lots of place to play, since we're essentially surrounded by water.
Climate -We're the Florida of Canada. We freeze in winter, but we roast in summer.
Parks -Dieppe, Reaume, Jackson, Mic Mac, Malden, Ojibway, etc.
Erie Street -Little Italy, indeed.
Charles Clarke Square -A beautiful spot for skating, especially with Christmas lights.
Pizza -You may here the same thing in many cities but, hey, we say it here, too.
Ingenuity -Windsor manufactures a lot, especially brain power and hard work.
Generosity -We have been hit hard, but we still show an amazing gift of giving.
Safety -You can't overlook the power of a safe community.
Multiculturalism -We're the fourth most ethnically diverse city in Canada, after big metropolises (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver).
The university and college -Both are enjoying large, ongoing projects.
